Santa Cruz Sentinel, 06 Sep 2010 - SANTA CRUZ -- Jon Castaline, a middle-aged disabled handyman, was looking for a place to store his tools and his medicinal marijuana plants. The rental units Jill Escher oversees on Beach Hill were perfect. While the one-car garage below a motel-turned-apartment complex didn't have electricity or water, Castaline was allowed to install one power outlet so he could put up a light and do his handyman work in the storage area. For $145 a month, it was hard to beat.

San Bernardino Sun, 05 Sep 2010 - The Regulate, Control and Tax Cannabis Act of 2010, now known as Proposition 19, is on the ballot for the upcoming November election. As a police chief I encourage you to review the initiative and join me in voting "no." Regardless of your opinion concerning medical marijuana, this initiative is poorly written and passage would be dangerous to our residents and could be catastrophic to our already fragile state economy. The California voters passed the Compassionate Use Act in 1996 (Proposition 215) providing marijuana for medical patients who suffer from a predetermined list of ailments. A few years later the Medical Marijuana Program Act (Proposition 420) was passed which codified some of the provisions of medical marijuana specific to the identification of people in need.

San Gabriel Valley Tribune, 04 Sep 2010 - Houses used solely to grow marijuana have been springing up around the San Gabriel Valley and investigators said they're supplying the drug to pot dispensaries. Since 2004 the number of indoor grows seized by authorities has doubled statewide as the number of marijuana dispensaries has shot up exponentially. While the dispensaries were originally set up as collectives for sick people to get medicinal marijuana, most now simply deal drugs illegally, detectives said.
